How to become a RBPP instructor Tobias Leckebush RBPP Director of German Speaking Countries
Hi folks, this update is for those Reality-Based Personal Protection students and instructors taking lessons with us at our European Headquarters in Solingen, Germany this year.
On May 16 we have a new 8 hour course called Knife Instructor. This course is for those of you who have already completed Knife Survival and the second day of Knife Camp, and wish to obtain your instructor certificate. This second day is now called Knife Expert. The new Knife Instructor course is to sure that you, who want to become RBPP Knife Survival and Knife Expert instructors, understand all of the details in both of these courses, and to make you a better instructor. If you have not completed Knife Survival and Knife Expert, then you will not be able to sign up for this course until you have. If you currently have a Knife Instructor certificate you are not required to take this course, but it is recommended to make you a better instructor.
The new Knife Camp will be maximum 4 courses:
Knife Survival: This is the basic course, as taught in the past.
Knife Expert: This will be the continuation, with more stuff to learn, and more conflict drills.
Tactical Knife: This is the law enforcement & military course.
Knife Instructor: This course will review the Knife Survival and Knife Expert curriculum in detail. You will be tested on the material and you will be required to teach and explain to your group members how to do each exercise, as well as explain the conflict concepts. Naturally, we will send you updated outlines before you come to the course. You will also have to teach some invited guess so you will get some honest feedback about you instructions.
1. the goal is, to make each Knife Instructor even more professional, and give him or her a chance to teach, and for Jim Wagner to verify if they know all the techniques we taught during Knife Survival and Knife Expert lessons.
2. If you only want to take this course for personal self-defense then take only the Knife Survival and Knife Expert lessons.
3. If you want to teach your own RBPP Knife Survival or Knife Expert classes, you MUST to go through Knife Survival course and the Knife Expert course, and then you will be tested during Knife Instructor phase to determine if you are qualified to teach.
I have also have had several questions about the courses we offer. One question is, „ What is the difference between the Knife Survival course offered the week of Lessons 1 to 5 and the Knife Survival course during Knife Camp?“ So, let me try to explan it this way:
Lessons 1-5 Lesson 1 Defensive Tactics Lesson 2 Ground Survival Lesson 3 Knife Survival Lesson 4 Crime Survival Lesson 5 Terrorism Survival
Lessons 6-10 Lesson 6 Conflict Conditioning Lesson 7 Scenario Training Lesson 8 Control & Defense Lesson 9 Improvised Weapons Lesson 10 Handgun Survival
You must complete Lessons 1-5 to qualify to sign up for Lessons 6-10. You do not have to take all the lessons in a row. Take what you are able to do. You can split it up ( Lessons 1-2 in April and then Lessons 3-5 in September, for example) If you are only interested in individual courses, that is fine also. This system is modular. You can participate in only Defensive Tactics or Crime Survival if you wish. You do not need to take all five classes.
On the other hand, iF you take all five lessons in a straight week or if you have split it up over time and eventually complete all five lessons, you will receive, an Apprentice Instructor Certificate, which allows you to teach the Lessons 1-5, like it was used to be in the past. With this „Apprentice Instructor Certificate“ your are only allowed to teach Lessons 1-5 for 1 year.
The same rules applies to Lessons 6-10. But, as I said before, to sign up for any of the Lessons 6-10, you have to have completed Lessons 1-5 first to qualify you for your next instructor level, if that is indeed your goal. Lessons 1-5 are the building blocks for Lessons 6-10, and that is why it is important to get those finished first if you plan to teach the Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection system. After successful completion of Lessons 6-10 you will receive an Advanced Apprentice Instructor Certificate; good for one year. Again, the Lessons 6-10 can be split, taken all in one week, or lessons can be taken individually. You have that freedom. However, if you have no interest in becoming an instructor, and you only want to learn self-defense, you can take any of the lessons 6-10 without taking any of the lessons in Lesson 1-5. If all you are interested in is Improvised Weapons, and that’s all, then sign up for it. Again, the system is modular for individual needs.
Once you have completed Lesson 1-10, you are qualified to take the Professional Instructor lessons. This level is only for those of you who will be teaching professionally, and wish to be recognized as official Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection instructors under Jim Wagner regardless if you teach the system or not. Some of you may want this certificate simply for your resume or to post on your own website.
This is basically the „old Level 3 courses“ like we used to have it structured, but with some major changes. The first day will be going over all of the techniques and exercises in Lesson 1-10 and testing your knowledge. Then, throughout the week we will go through all of the business aspects of teaching the system (what to do to be successful in your teaching business), marketing and advertising, how to make DVDs (for training, YouTube, and your own website), communication skills, and lots of hands-on exercises to be an effective leader and professional instructor in the self-defense business.
So, after taking the five Professional Instructor’s lessons, your Apprentice Instructor Certificate will become a full Instructor’s Certificate. You will be named on Jim Wagner’s official website and on the RBPP European Headquarters website.
If you already started your training with us before January 1, 2010 as an Level 1 or Level 2 Instructor, you will get a discount for the Professional Instructor lessons. For further information for the L1 and L2 instructors taught before 2010, please contact me directly. All others coming into the system after January 1, 2010 will pay our standard 200 euro a lesson, which is 1.000 euro to complete all five lessons. These lessons will be held in January 2011. All of these changings where necessary to guarantee the highest professional standards for our current and future RBPP instructors. We noticed, that some of you, not all of you, are not as proficient as you should be as instructors. No offense intended, it is only an observation, and this is why we are working on making things better, and to make you even better instructors. After all, if you teach our system people’s lives depend on the information you give them.
Thank you all for your continued support, and your support of the Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection system worldwide. www.realitybased.de
NOTE FROM JIM WAGNER: For those of you who will be taking lessons at the USA Headquarters in Dallas, Texas we will be certifying instructors in the same manner,
