What made this course even more fun for me to teach was not only the daily help from Dallas, but assistance from Garth Hoffman and James Proulx; both were the first instructors in Canada certified by me four years ago back when I first started, and even further back than that when they were law enforcement students of mine almost a decade ago.
The Vancouver (Burnaby) Level 1 courses attracted a loss prevention agent, constables from British Columbia, a security consultant, self-defense instructors from a variety of traditional martial arts and Tyrel McLelland and Ken Willis from Alberta who flew in for the training.
When I arrived on the first day, January 21st, the ground was covered by snow. They had been hit the week before by two heavy snow storms. However, by the time my aircraft took off from the airport a week later the snow had melted, and it was blue skies and sunshine. The snow capped mountains that dominate the Vancouver skyline was postcard beautiful.
For you Canadians reading this article Dallas and I have more courses planned for the year: Level 2 in Vancouver (Burnaby) July 30 to August 4 and in Toronto September 10 to 14. Also, for you self-defense schools out there all across Canada, même au Québec, Dallas Johnson can come to your school and teach you for free, if you have 10 sign ups or more, the Reality-Based Personal Protection courses of your choice. All you need to do is contact him at dallas@realitybasedselfdefense.net Like all of my directors worldwide, he’s one of the best instructors you can find.
