Nordic Countries taking to Reality-Based Jim Wagner
From November 13 to 17 I taught my Level 1 Reality-Based Personal Protection courses for the second time this year at Malmö, Sweden. For having only been the second seminar run by Peter Falk, Reality-Based Director of the Nordic Countries, since he took command last year it had attracted future instructors from Sweden, Finland, and Norway. It also pulled in the top Defensive Tactics instructor of Southern Sweden from the national police department, a police academy recruit from the Växjö Polis Högskola (Växjö Police Academy), a SWAT officer, and a K-9 officer.
Before teaching the Level 1 courses Peter and I taught an introduction Knife Survival course on Sunday, November 12 to 16 students. It was their first taste of the Reality-Based system and everybody loved it. After the seminar Peter took me to the Swedish city of Lunds to see the Lunds Cathedral (Domkyrka Lunds) built a thousand years ago. Peter and I are both history buffs, so we have made it a point to visit museums and places of historical importance on each of my visits. Last time it was the Danish National Museum in Copenhagen.

For some reason the students all bonded together early on in the week making in one of the best groups I ever taught. Most of them ate their lunches together and all of my new certified instructors went to the Cutty Sark bar & restaurant with Peter and I on Thursday evening of the 16th to have a last get together. The following morning we finished the week with Terrorism Survival. This course attracted some extra students.

Peter is doing a phenomenal job making Reality-Based grow in the Nordic Countries. For 2007 we will be offering the following courses in Malmö, Sweden:
June 18 to 22 Level 1
October 1 to 6 Level 1
We’ve had some inquires from Denmark, and it looks like our next courses will be attracting students and future instructors from the largest Nordic countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Denmark. Once we’ve got enough students coming from these countries we will set our sites on Iceland.
