Ever since Jim Wagner started the "reality-based movement" there have been a lot of instructors worldwide copying the Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection system. Some instructors have credible police, corrections, military, or counter-terrorism backgrounds, while many do not. There are many impostors out there who claim they have taught the "Navy SEALs," the "SAS," or elite police and military units. As such, Jim Wagner is once again setting the standard for the self-defense community by having a photo gallery that gives evidence of his background, which can be verified, and we will be adding to it on a regular basis.
If you go to an instructor outside of the Jim Wagner Reality-Based Personal Protection system, and he or she claims to have a professional background, or that they claim to teach "the top police and military units," or anything of this nature, then have them prove it to you. Ask them what agencies or units they have served in, and what academies they graduated from and the number of the class. Every law enforcement academy or Special Forces class has an assigned number. Have them produce training certificates, letters, and of course - photos if they do not have a website or have refused to post them on their website.
